Two weeks down
the peninsula.
and you’re invited…
Basil's Garage × Agave Expeditions
People have been asking Basil to guide a trip to Baja for years now. After chatting with Gabe from Agave Expeditions too many times about putting a trip together, we finally did it… We planned a route and are taking five of you with us.
October 4th - 17th
The way we actually travel Baja.
It's two weeks down the peninsula, run the way we'd do it ourselves. Lots of miles off the pavement, remote beach camps, and time on and in the water.
We’re not calling it a surf trip, but if there are waves, we’re finding them… Two boat trips - One to a volcano, the other to some remote points that even Basil hasn’t explored. Empty beach camps in some of the most beautiful areas you’ll find. There are a LOT more details that will be shared with interested participants. But the basics are we’re doing a trip just like Basil would, heavy on the Pacific side, spending lots of time looking for waves. If you’re not a surfer, you'd better like sitting on the beach. We’re going to drive down some technical trails that will test your vehicle; you'd better like washboard and be ready for hundreds of miles of it. All participants are expected to be able to travel fully self-sufficient, with food, water, fuel, etc., for 3+ days off-grid.
Gabe Erivez is Agave Expeditions — a decade-plus guiding Patagonia, Iceland, and Baja, a native Spanish speaker, wired into the ranchers and fishermen who make these places what they are.
He's a friend of Basil’s and one of the most respected guides in Baja. He handles the route, the people, and logistics.
Basil Lynch is the owner of Basil’s Garage - Vehicle builder and Baja connisour. Speaks enough Spanish to order tacos & beer, knows how to turn a wrench, and enjoys punishing his truck on remote Baja Roads.
Is not a Baja “expert” by any means, but knows a thing or two about finding empty remote waves.
Where are we going?
With 14 days south of the border, expect us to get well into Baja Sur. We’ll spend lots of time on the Pacific side, but we’ve also got a few rad spots planned for the Cortez side.
We’re keeping the route to ourselves to keep the spots quiet — that's part of the deal. You'll get the full route once you're paid and packing, not a mile of it before. You’re expected to keep every location that we go to to yourself. Blow up a spot, and you’re not invited back.
Your rig has to be built.
We're getting into technical country — Deep sand, rock, technical climbs, all a long way from a tow truck. Every truck needs to be properly set up before we roll. We’ll help determine if your rig is capable enough to join. At a minimum, you’ll need:
Proper load-rated all-terrain or mud-terrain tires
Suspension to handle any additional payload
One full-size spare. No exceptions.
200+ mile fuel range off-road.
Air compressor w/ tire plug kit
Vehicle must be in perfect mechanical shape… this is a big one
The ability to camp for 3-4 nights, fully self-sufficient
Inside 45 days of leaving, bring your rig by the shop for a pre-trip inspection — or hit a shop we trust if you're not local. Either way, we'll work with you to get it right.
How much?
$4,500
Per Rig. That can be you solo, you and your family, or you and a friend. Doesn’t matter.
This covers all guide fees, national park and archaeological site fees, ecolodge and ranch stay fees, boat trip fees, and logistics planning of the trip.
You cover gas, food/snacks/drinks, Mexican insurance, and tourist visa (FMM).
How do you join?
This one's for Basil's Garage customers — folks we've built a rig for.
Where that line sits is up to us, and that's what the application's for. Not sure it's you? Apply anyway. Five trucks, picked by hand.
Use the contact form below to apply to join. Basil will contact you with any questions, and if all looks good, set up a time to jump on a call or meet in person. We’re having an application process to make sure your rig and personality fit the trip. Anyone is welcome to apply, bring your friends, family, dogs, cats, whatever you want. We’re stoked you’re interested in joining!
